New Moorings for Ramsey

120 metres of new mooring will be delivered along the High Lode in Ramsey in a new agreement between Accent, Ramsey Town Council and the Middle Level Commissioners (MLC).

We have made the financial contribution to provide the mooring as part of the Byelaw agreement relating to our new homes on Stocking Fen Road.

New Mooring Along The High Lode

The agreement will see the new mooring installed along the High Lode at the northern edge of the town. The project, which will be delivered early next year, will protect the watercourse, maintain flood defences and enhance the local environment. At the same time, it will encourage boating visitors to the town and create new income for the local economy.

Users of the High Lode waterway have been calling for such mooring to be constructed in this location for many years and there have been at least three previous failed attempts to obtain funding to implement them.

Chris Smith, Senior Development Project Manager, said: “We are not only committed to building high quality affordable new homes for rent and shared ownership in Ramsey, but also in meeting our obligation to support the embankment. We are delighted to be able to enhance this area and to provide this support to the local economy and community. I have no doubt that the new moorings will encourage tourism and boost the economy of the town.”

A Positive Partnership

David Thomas Chief Executive of the Middle Level Commissioners said: “I cannot be more pleased that this positive partnership has led to a result which will be excellent for boaters, for the Town of Ramsey and for those how will be occupying houses close to the water. I recall efforts being made to do something in this location at least 16 years ago when ambitious plans were put forward, but at that time money could not be found to progress them. It has always saddened me to see this head of the navigation not achieving its full potential and it is so rewarding to have helped play a part with the other team members to rectify this”

Delivery of the works are being project managed by the Middle Level Commissioners who will take ownership of them once completed. Ramsey Town Council will then take ownership of the land above the moorings to provide space for amenities and will be responsible for the supply of potable water and waste and recycling facilities.
