Community Hub Restored with Contractor Support in Sunderland

A community hub at the heart of our Downhill estate in Sunderland has been given a fresh new look thanks to the support of our contractor partner, Bagnalls.

The Downhill Community Hub provides a range of activities, support services and opportunities for local people. Following a recent incident of vandalism, one of the centre's rooms was left badly damaged and in need of repair.

During a recent estate clean-up, Housing Partner Eshana Harker and Community Development Partner Heather Jacklin visited the hub and learned about the challenges the damage had caused for the volunteers who run the centre.

Wanting to help, Heather contacted Accent's contractor partners to see if support could be provided. Bagnalls stepped forward and generously agreed to repaint the damaged room free of charge, helping the centre return the space to use for the local community.

Eshana Harker, Housing Partner at Accent, said:
"The Downhill Community Hub offers a vital service for the local community, providing a range of activities and support services that local people can access close to home.

"During a recent estate clean-up, we learned that the centre had sadly been vandalised. The damage was significant and the hub has limited resources, so we were keen to help if possible. We approached Bagnalls, our painting contractor in the region, and they were only too pleased to help. They've done an amazing job and we're very grateful for their support."

The project is a great example of how partnership working can make a real difference to local communities, helping valuable community spaces continue to support the people who rely on them.

A huge thank you to Bagnalls for their generosity and to everyone involved in helping restore this important community facility.
