50 New Affordable Homes Completed in Chatteris | Accent

We’re proud to have completed 50 new affordable homes at Fairbairn Way in Chatteris, Cambridgeshire, working in partnership with Burmor Construction.

The final homes have now been handed over, completing a development of 18 two-bedroom, 26 three-bedroom and six four-bedroom homes. All 50 homes are available for affordable rent, helping more families put down roots in the local community.

A home adapted around one family’s needs

Fairbairn Way is already making a real difference to the people who now call it home.

By working closely with Fenland District Council and Cambridgeshire County Council, we were able to adapt one of the four-bedroom homes for a family with a child who has special educational needs.

Changes to the home included a specialist bedroom ventilation system and flooring requested by the family. These adaptations have helped the family move from private rented accommodation into a secure, long-term home while staying close to the family support networks that are important to them.

Steve Morris, our Executive Director of Development and Sales, said:

“The completion of Fairbairn Way is another significant step in our commitment to providing high-quality affordable homes in communities where they are needed most. These 50 new homes will give local families the stability, security and opportunity that comes with a genuinely affordable home.

“We are particularly proud of the collaborative approach that enabled us to tailor one of the properties to meet the needs of a family with a child who has special educational needs, helping them remain close to their support network.”

Energy-efficient homes for our customers

The new homes have also been designed with sustainability and customers’ energy costs in mind.

Using modern methods of construction, the homes have achieved an EPC A energy rating, helping our customers benefit from homes that are more energy efficient and environmentally friendly.

Fairbairn Way also received funding through the Affordable Homes Programme, through our Strategic Partnership with Homes England.

Creating a positive impact in Chatteris

Our work at Fairbairn Way has been about more than building new homes. Working with Burmor Construction, the development has also created opportunities to make a wider contribution to the local community.

Burmor Construction estimates that the development has generated £2.95 million in social value through activities including educational workshops with local primary school pupils, support for local Scouts, careers events for young people interested in construction, environmental clean-ups and investment in local supply chains.

Jack Wycherley, Business Manager at Burmor Construction, said:

“Alongside delivering vitally important affordable housing, the development has generated an estimated £2.95 million in social value, measured through our social value tracking and reporting.

“This has included educational workshops with local primary school pupils, support for local Scouts through community engagement activities, careers events for young people interested in construction, environmental clean-up projects and investment in local supply chains.

“We’re proud of the positive contribution the project has made to the local community, alongside delivering much-needed new homes.”

The completion of Fairbairn Way is another important step in our work to provide good-quality, affordable homes in places where they’re needed, while creating lasting benefits for the communities we serve.
