Supportive Employer Spotlight: Working Parenthood at Accent

I want to take a moment to reflect on an incredible journey, both personal and professional.

I’ve had the privilege of working at Accent, an organisation that not only values career development but truly supports its people through every stage of life.

I joined Accent eight years ago in the contact centre (now the Housing Hub), taking a significant pay cut to change careers while balancing family life. Although I had no housing background and was initially just looking for a job that fit around my children, it quickly became a career I wanted to grow in.

Since then, I’ve progressed through roles in the Income team, Housing Partner via secondment, Area Housing Manager for Bradford, and into my current role as a Specialist Housing Manager, alongside completing CIH Level 2 and 3 qualifications and preparing to start Level 4. I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunities I’ve had and proud of the journey so far.

I have grown as a professional while also embracing the most rewarding role of all—being a mum. I welcomed my third child whilst working at Accent and have three amazing children (including a teenager which certainly has its challenges!), life has been full of challenges and joys.

This month, my youngest (Maeve) turned three, which made me reflect on how grateful I am. Balancing motherhood and a career is never easy, but I’ve been fortunate to work in an environment where being a parent was never seen as a barrier to success.

I have been encouraged to learn, develop, and take on new opportunities proving that with the right support, women can thrive both at home and at work. This journey has taught me resilience, adaptability, and the power of a supportive workplace culture.

To my colleagues and leaders at Accent who believed in me and championed my growth, thank you! Your encouragement has made all the difference.

Here’s to continuing to break barriers and showing that being a mum and a successful professional can go hand in hand. 💪✨

If you’re a working parent or considering your next career step, know that it is possible with the right support and determination.

Feeling Grateful and Proud 🌟
