As the weather turns colder in January, we want to keep you updated on how Accent supports our communities during icy conditions.
We don’t routinely provide gritting at every scheme. This is usually offered only where it is included in your service charge or where a risk assessment shows it’s especially important. Schemes that typically receive gritting include our Specialist Housing and some Independent Living schemes, as well as a small number of locations where priority areas have been agreed in advance.
Where gritting is provided, our contractors grit key routes - such as main entrances and paths that are used most often. They carry this out when temperatures fall to -1°C or below, aiming to have the work completed by 9am the next morning. Please be aware that not all paths or car parks will be gritted, and we’re unable to treat public roads or pavements that fall outside our responsibility.
Some schemes have grit bins on site. These are there for customers to use if they’d like to, though there is absolutely no expectation for anyone to grit areas themselves.
We kindly encourage everyone to take extra care in icy weather. If you spot ongoing ice, blocked pathways, or an empty grit bin at a scheme where refills are normally provided, please get in touch so we can look into it.
Stay safe this winter, and thank you for helping us keep our communities moving.
