Accent has launched a new community road safety project in Oswaldtwistle to help make the streets around St Andrew’s Court and Hippings Vale safer for everyone.
Customers told Accent that cars were driving too fast along Kay Street, which was putting people, children and families in danger. In response, Accent worked with pupils from St Andrew’s CE Primary School to design bright and colourful safety signs. The signs remind drivers to slow down and think about others.
The children’s artwork is now proudly displayed on site next to a new speed bump. The signs were revealed at a special event with Accent customers, residents, colleagues and the Mayor of Hyndburn. The Mayor, who used to go to St Andrew’s himself, spent time talking with the children and local people to show his support for this important community project.
Jackie Field, Housing Partner at Accent Housing, said:
“This has been a true team effort between our customers, the school, and Accent. The children’s designs are not only fantastic but carry such an important message for drivers. We hope these signs, along with the speed bump, will help keep our communities safe for years to come. The day was a real celebration of teamwork and community spirit, made even better by the autumn sunshine and plenty of refreshments.”
Heather Jacklin, Community Development Partner at Accent Housing and organiser of this initiative, said:
“It’s been inspiring to see how local residents and the school have come together to make a real difference. Projects like this show the real impact of social value in action bringing people together, improving neighbourhoods, and creating pride in our communities. At Accent, these kinds of initiatives are at the heart of what we stand for. They reflect our values of working in partnership and putting people first, ensuring our customers feel safe, supported, and proud of where they live.”
This is just the start. Accent Housing, St Andrew’s CE Primary School and local residents plan to keep working together on more community projects to make the area safer and happier for everyone.
