Last week we welcomed Year 5 pupils from Glebelands Primary School to the wonderful new site at Fairbairn Way, Chatteris, working in partnership with Burmor Construction and Project Abundance.
Together, we transformed an unused space into a thriving green habitat by using all recycled materials which were heading to landfill as well as lots sticks, leaves, pines cones collected during dog walks.
Together the youngsters created a:
- Bug hotel βπ βπͺ³βπβββ
- Hedgehog houseββπ¦ββ
- Bee post βπ
- And spread Wildflower Seeds βπΊββ
This work supports local biodiversity while creating a hands on learning experience for the children, who also enjoyed a creative rock painting session, adding a personal touch to the day.
It was also fantastic to see new customers, from recently handed over homes come, get involved including 3-year-old Bertie who got stuck in and enjoyed the activities.
βMy son had been watching from his window and was really keen to come and see what was going on. I think itβs amazing that this space is going to be used for wildlife. Bertie will definitely be over here looking after it, as he absolutely loves nature.β - Bertieβs mum.
"I've had so much fun, I canβt wait to come back and visit to see how many bugs have moved in!" - Pupil from Glebelands Primary School.
A big thank you Lewis from Project Abundance for his expertise and enthusiasm. It was wonderful to see the community come together, learn new skills, and take pride in creating something that will benefit the community for years to come π±
