Many people across the UK are finding it harder to keep up with bills. Energy costs are still a big worry, and we know that many of our customers are feeling this pressure too.
National Energy Action (NEA) estimates that, as of 1 January 2025, 6.1 million households in the UK are living in fuel poverty. Big Energy Week is about raising awareness and helping people find support before things become too difficult.
Small changes can help
Some simple changes at home can help save energy:
- Turn lights off when you leave a room
- Close curtains at dusk to keep warmth in
- Use draught excluders to stop cold air coming through doors
Improving energy efficiency, choosing the right energy provider, and making small changes to how you heat your home can all make a difference.
You don’t have to deal with this alone
Knowing where to get help is important. Our website has help, advice and guidance on managing energy costs, with links to support agencies where dedicated organisations can help you get the support you need.
Our colleagues are also meeting with LEAP (Local Energy Advice Partnership). LEAP offers free, practical advice on managing energy costs and improving energy efficiency. This will help us better support customers who need it.
Warm spaces this winter
Warm Welcome Week (19–25 January 2026) helps people find Warm Welcome Spaces. These are free, friendly places where anyone can go to stay warm, feel safe, and connect with others. This can be especially important during the coldest and loneliest time of the year.
There are already over 5,500 Warm Welcome Spaces across the UK. Last winter, there were 2.6 million visits, with many people saying they felt less lonely and that their wellbeing improved.
Local events and advice
Some of our communities are also running events and advice sessions, including Independent Living Scheme coffee mornings, where customers can get support in a relaxed and welcoming environment. Speak to your housing partner to find out about events in your community.
