Accent Trials New Waiting List for Renting a Home

Accent Housing is trialling a new lettings waiting list to make it simpler for customers to apply for a home. Customer feedback highlighted that applying for a home can feel complex and unclear, with some customers unsure how to express interest in Accent homes.

This pilot aims to make the process simpler and more transparent, and is part of an update to our Allocations and Lettings Policy. The new policy explains how applications are checked, how priority is decided, and how homes are offered.

As part of this pilot, customers in some areas can now register their interest directly with Accent. This sits alongside the usual ways of applying, such as through local council’s Choice-Based Lettings schemes.

The pilot waiting list is currently open in Middlesbrough, Stockton, Redcar and Cleveland, Hartlepool, Sunderland and Bradford. Customers can tell Accent where they would like to live and what type of home they need. If a suitable home becomes available, Accent may get in touch.

All applications are reviewed carefully. Customers are placed into priority bands based on their level of housing need. People with the greatest need, such as those who are homeless or living in unsafe homes, are given higher priority.

Serria Ashraf, Head of Customer Contact and Allocations, said: “We want to make things as simple and clear as possible for our customers. This pilot gives people another way to tell us what they need, while making sure we continue to support those who need housing the most. If successful, we hope to roll this pilot scheme to more areas we have homes.”

Customers are still encouraged to apply through their local council, as many homes will continue to be let this way.

If you live in one of the pilot areas, you can also register your interest directly with Accent.
