New Affordable Family Homes Open in Haddenham

We have completed a £13 million affordable housing development in Haddenham, East Cambridgeshire, delivering 40 new homes to help meet local need and support the government’s ambition to increase housing supply across England.

The new development, Mallard Meadows just off Station Road in Haddenham, provides a mix of 25 Affordable Rent homes and 15 Shared Ownership homes, creating new opportunities for local people and families to access high-quality housing in a rural area where demand remains strong. The homes include a mix of two and three-bedroom semi-detached and terraced properties designed primarily for families.

Located in one of East Cambridgeshire’s largest villages, with strong links to Ely and Cambridge, the 40 unit brownfield site originally began life as a former shoe factory followed by an industrial site that had become associated with antisocial behaviour and now into a new neighbourhood of energy-efficient homes.

All 40 homes achieve an EPC A rating and are fitted with air source heat pumps and solar PV panels, helping customers benefit from lower-carbon living and reduced energy use.

The scheme was supported by grant funding from Homes England, underlining the continued importance of investment and partnership in delivering affordable housing in areas of need.

Construction was carried out by Burmor Construction. Work started on site in October 2022 and completed in March 2026.

“Mallard Meadows has transformed a previously derelict industrial site that had become a focal point for antisocial behaviour into a high-quality new neighbourhood for local families. By bringing this land back into positive use, we have not only improved the local environment but delivered 40 much-needed affordable homes for the community.

The development includes a mixture of two and three-bedroom homes for Affordable Rent, offered at least 20% below market rents, alongside homes available through Shared Ownership. All homes have been designed to achieve EPC A ratings, with air-source heat pumps and solar panels installed on every property, creating modern, energy-efficient homes that will remain affordable and sustainable for years to come.”

"We’re pleased to have now successfully completed our latest development for Accent. It’s great to see these homes now finished and ready to provide high-quality, affordable housing for local residents.

Sustainability was a key focus throughout the project. The homes have been designed to achieve an EPC A rating, with air source heat pumps and PV solar panels installed across the development. These measures help ensure the homes are highly energy efficient while also contributing to the wider push for carbon reduction across the industry.

The development was built using a traditional brick and block construction method, finished with a combination of blue and red engineering brick detailing, giving the homes a strong, attractive finish that will stand the test of time.

It’s been another great project to deliver alongside Accent and we’re proud to see the scheme completed and adding real value to the local community."
