Supporting future talent during National Apprenticeship Week | Accent Housing

During National Apprenticeship Week, Accent Housing strengthened its commitment to supporting future talent, partnership working, and creating opportunities for young people.

Helen, one of Accent’s Community Development Partners, attended the Get Synergised: Making Sustainability & Social Value Work for You event at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge. The event brought together organisations from across the region to share how they are delivering social value, sustainability, and responsible business practices.

Speakers included representatives from leading organisations such as Skanska, Tees Law, and Stagecoach Group, who shared insights into equality, diversity, responsible employment, and community impact. A key highlight was the launch of ARU’s new Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Practitioner Apprenticeship, helping to develop future leaders and embed sustainability across industries.

Inspiring young people on site

To round off the week, Helen visited Accent’s development at Fairbairn Way, Chatteris with a group of students from Upskill Peterborough, delivered in partnership with Burmor Construction.

Despite the wet and muddy conditions, the visit was a valuable opportunity for students to see a live construction site and learn more about careers in the industry. Students heard directly from the site manager about how homes are built and the range of roles involved.

It was especially encouraging to hear students share their ambitions, with interests ranging from construction and engineering to design and town planning.

Creating opportunities through partnership

Accent is proud to work with partners like Burmor Construction and local training providers to open doors for young people and help them explore career pathways. These experiences help build confidence, develop skills, and inspire the next generation.

National Apprenticeship Week provided a valuable opportunity to celebrate the role apprenticeships play in supporting individuals, strengthening communities, and building a skilled workforce for the future.

Accent remains committed to creating opportunities that support learning, growth, and long-term careers.
