What Is Shared Ownership?

Shared ownership is also known as part-buy, part-rent. It is a scheme that allows you to buy a share of a property and pay rent on the rest. The scheme is designed to help people with small deposits, and lower incomes get on the property ladder.

You buy a stake of between 25% and 75% of the property from a housing association and then pay rent on the remaining share.

But not everyone can utilise this scheme. The criteria for shared ownership are as follows:

  • A deposit between 5%-10% of the equity share you’re buying is required.
  • You will not be able to purchase a shared ownership home if you are in a position to afford to buy a similar home outright.
  • It must be your only home. (So, you'll either be a first-time buyer or someone who used to own a home but doesn't anymore and can't afford to buy one now).
  • You'll also need to show that you are not currently in rent arrears and that you have a good credit history.
  • Your household earns £80,000 a year or less or £90,000 a year or less in London
  • You’re a British or EU/EEA citizen or have indefinite leave to remain

Is Peterborough A Nice Place To Live?

Peterborough is an excellent place to live and settle down despite all the polls. Especially for residents that have a family. We would recommend locating to the middle of the city, the main reason being The Peterborough School.

Apart from excellent schools, Peterborough has entertainment for all, family facilities and more importantly affordable homes. The city has so much going for it, with plenty of upcoming developments and opportunities, from a new university to regeneration projects breathing life into formerly forgotten areas of the city.

What Is There To Do In Peterborough?

Peterborough, in our opinion, is very underrated. The city has a lot going for it, from its beautiful cathedral to its green spaces and passion for the sport. Cambridgeshire city is a great place to visit or call home, just under an hour on the train from London.

Here are some of the top things Peterborough is known for, and some excellent reasons to live in the city:

Peterborough Cathedral

Originally built as an abbey in the early 12th century, you can find the cathedral in the centre of the city. In fact, if you visit the cathedral, you can enter for free and have a look around.

Great Outdoors

Peterborough has a lot of outdoor space, which is perfect for people and families who love to spend their time adventuring their hometown outdoors.

There are parks and beauty spots that are ideal if you’re looking for a green space to commune with nature. Sacrewell Farm is a great pick if you want a family day out, It has an 18th-century windmill, a wildlife trail and a cafe, and even tractor rides.

Home Of Sport

There’s lots of sport to enjoy in Peterborough too, whether you’re watching it or playing it. Weston Homes Stadium (London Road) is the home ground of Peterborough United and is mostly used for football.
