If you are thinking about moving to Accrington, you probably want to know as much as you can about the area, including how safe it is. You will be pleased to know that Accrington is an incredible place to live – so let us explain.
Here at Accent Housing, we are a housing association with lots of residents living in Accrington and the surrounding areas of Lancashire. We know a thing or two about the local area. In this blog, we’re going to outline why Accrington is a safe (and fantastic) place to live.
Is Accrington A Nice Place To Live?
Accrington is an excellent place to live and call home. Situated within touching distance of everything in Lancashire, the historic country is within everything in the North West of England.
Accrington is the ideal place to live for couples, overs 55’s and families. The variety in the town is not only ideal, but it's also affordable, it has a rich history and breathes culture.
The Best Things About Accrington
Howarth Art Gallery
Described as Lancashire’s finest Arts & Crafts house and garden. Haworth Art Gallery was designed by the architect Walter Brierley and houses the internationally important Tiffany Glass Museum as well as Accrington Art Gallery and artists’ studios in the former stables.
Not only set in a beautiful building, but it also comes with the added bonus of offering garden walks with stunning hillside views, excellent food at the Gallery Kitchen and the ability to host weddings.
Accrington Stanley Football Club
At the heart of the town and potentially the beat of the local people, the Accrington Stanley Football club are currently in the highest league in their existence – League one.
Under the ownership of local businessman Andy Holt, Stanley has become the envy of smaller sides across the country as a model of how to grow sustainably.
Meanwhile, the club’s excellent community work continues with hundreds of Year 3 schoolchildren recently given a goodie bag including match tickets and a Stanley shirt.
Oak Hill Park
If you’re a lover of the outdoors, Accrington is a great place to live. As well as being Accrington’s home of the war memorial, Oak Hill park covers just short of 9 acres of features and facilities.
To get an idea it has two bowling greens, a multi-use games area, tennis courts, play area, Victorian water fountain and bandstand. The woodlands offer lots of space and nature to be explored, while the designated walks come with bonus activities.
Victorian Market Hall
Lastly, and certainly not least (Or even the last one), we have Accrington Market. Situated in the centre of Accrington, the Victorian Market Hall can be found next to the Town Hall.
Giving space for independent traders to thrive, the traditional market offers a mixture of essential supplies and services including beauty treatments as well as cafes and takeaways.
The outside market also runs five days a week. Meanwhile, the Accrington Arndale offers a more modern shopping experience with many national chains.
