Can I Apply Direct To A Housing Association?

You must register with a housing association in your area before securing a housing association property. And here at Accent Housing, we have properties available all across the country!

If you’re registering online with Accent Housing, you must sign up for an account with Let’s Move. Many of our homes across the North of England can be applied for directly through our online application system.

In this Accent article, we’re going to talk about housing associations, tenancies as well as take you through the process of creating a Let’s Move account.

What is a Housing Association?

Housing associations are not-for-profit organisations that own, let, and manage affordable housing.

Properties by housing associations are generally much cheaper than privately rented housing. And they often provide a long-term tenancy type.

The accommodations that are provided by HAs are sometimes referred to as social housing which is often mistaken as council housing. Instead, housing associations don’t replace council housing, they just provide good homes at affordable prices to residents who cannot compete in the housing market.

What is a Housing Association Tenancy?

You might benefit from a housing association tenancy if you’re in need of housing and live in the UK.

Because Housing Association properties are owner by social landlords, they are independent landlords focused on making sure people have access to housing. There are several kinds of housing association tenancies available but at Accent Housing, we commonly use the following tenancy types.

Starter Tenancy

We issue this tenancy for new tenants. At the start, your tenancy will be for just 12 months and, providing there’s no issues or agreement breaches, it can be promoted to a full assured tenancy.

Assured Tenancy

Starting after your start tenancy, this is our most common type of tenancy.

The rent for your home is set at the very start of your tenancy and reviewed once a year. Information such as rent review dates and rent increase details are included in your Tenancy Agreement which we must abide by.

How Do I Apply To A Housing Association?

Applying to a housing association, particularly Accent Housing, requires you to create an account with our online application system.

You’ll be asked a series of questions about your:

  • Income
  • Current living situation
  • Family and dependency (if any adults/children are dependent on you)
  • Past homes (whether you’re relocating or lived elsewhere previously)
  • Job history
  • Savings and assets
  • Visas and immigration documents for non-UK citizens.

There are plenty of benefits that come with being an Accent resident. Such as 24/7 on-call repairs services, and access to our customer contact centre.

Registering is actually really simple and very quick and if you need help, don’t worry. We can guide you through the process. All you need to give us are some personal details – name, date of birth, email address, and a password – and one your information is verified, your account is set up!

Then, you can start looking for suitable homes for you. It doesn’t matter whether that’s in your local area or relocating to a different area. You will be able to bid on homes through the Let’s Move account and even set up alerts so you don’t miss out on an opportunity to bid for a home.

If you move into a housing association house through Accent, your account automatically switches to ‘MyAccount’ which is your online tenancy account. Here, all your information regarding your Tenancy Agreement will be accessible.

Accent Housing has over 2000 homes throughout the UK, helping over 41,000 residents find homes for themselves and their families. Finding your perfect home has never been simpler.
