Our income team support Accent residents up and down the country who are struggling to pay their rent or service charge.
One of our Income Managers is Roy, who works with residents in Yorkshire and has worked at Accent for nine years.
Over the year, Roy has helped many residents take back control of their finances by helping them apply for benefits, budgeting and referring them to other agencies, including StepChange and MoneyHelper.
Reflecting on the people he has supported, Roy said: “It’s great to be able to come to work each day and make a real difference to our customers who are struggling. It can seem a scary step to get in touch with us, but we’re here to help, not judge. We can also point you in the right direction for other experts who can give you more advice and guidance.
“One resident came to me with multiple debts and owed Accent a significant amount of arrears. I referred them to Step Change and they helped him put a plan in place to pay off the debt over a few years. They are now in a much better financial position and their arrears are reducing each month.”
Roy supported another resident to apply for Universal Credit, including a massive backdate payment to help them pay their rent arrears. Roy said: “The resident is now financially better off and is now working to improve their home.”
