Is Stockton A Safe Place To Live?

If you are thinking about relocating to Stockton-on-Tees, you probably want to know as much as you can about the area, including how safe it is. You will be pleased to know that Stockton-on-Tees is an incredible place to live – and there’s statistics to back it up.

Here at Accent Housing, we are a housing association with lots of residents living in Stockton and surrounding areas. So, we know a thing or two about the local area. In this blog, we’re going to outline why Stockton-on-Tees is a safe (and fantastic) place to live.

Is Stockton-on-Tees Safe?

Yes! This large market town in County Durham is considered a safe place to live. In fact, a recent survey of 7137 areas across the UK listed Stockton-on-Tees as the Top 6th Best place to live in the UK – and crime rates played a big part in this.

The key factors taken into consideration when casting votes included crime, health, income, homeownership and economic activity.

There was a time when Stockton-on-Tees had a bit of a negative reputation, some of which was attributed to the crime in the area. However, this proactive town created the Safer Stockton Partnership in 2013/14, which is a local community safety partnership.

The partnership includes several agencies and organisations, which work together to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour in the Borough of Stockton. The hard work carried out by the Safer Stockton Partnership has significantly reduced crime in the area.

Is Stockton-on-Tees A Nice Place To Live?

Yes! Stockton-on-Tees is a great place to live. But don’t just take it from us. The locals will tell you the same. Earlier this year, a survey carried out by The Northern Echo polled more than 700 people living on Teesside  - and Stockton was named by readers as Teesside's best place to live!

And it’s not surprising. As well as being a safe place to live, Stockton-on-Tees has plenty going for it. It’s affordable, with a great sense of community, beautiful surroundings and lots of things to do. Plus, the area has plenty of fantastic schools, making it a great place to raise a family.

What Makes Stockton-on-Tees So Great?

In recent years, several investments have regenerated the town of Stockton-on-Tees, giving it a little bit of a kick into the 21st century. The town now boasts a wide range of leisure activities, shopping opportunities and outdoor attractions.

The gem of Stockton has to be Preston Park Museum & Grounds, which is loved by locals and visitors alike. It boasts 100 acres of parkland overlooking the River Tees as well as Butterfly World, Teesside Small Gauge Railway, Victorian Street and so much more.

The Tees Barrage White Water Centre is another excellent attraction in the area, offering opportunities for white water rafting, canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding, cycling and ‘air trails’ and more.

The Georgian Theatre and Alpaca Alpaca At Leven Valley are also noteworthy attractions. Aside from the impressive variety of leisure facilities and attractions, Stockton-on-Tees also hosts amazing community events throughout the year.
