Afghanistan Support

We are deeply saddened by the chaotic and desperate scenes unfolding in Afghanistan.

The Government will now aim to allow 5,000 Afghan citizens to settle in the UK, with a long-term goal of 20,000, through the Afghan Citizens’ Resettlement Scheme.

We want to do as much as we can to help.

Support From Accent Housing

Through our partnership with Surrey Heath Council, we have been able to provide homes to Afghan citizens looking to settle in the UK through one of the UK Government settlement schemes. This scheme, launched in April, aims to resettle interpreters and other people who worked for the UK in Afghanistan.

This work with Surrey Heath Council is on top of the help we have been able to offer families from Syria in support of the Government’s settlement scheme for people arriving in the UK from Syria.

Our customer partnership teams in all our regions are working closely with their local authorities to help with these resettlement schemes wherever possible. We are already working with Kirklees Council, and have met with Bradford Council to help agree how the settlement schemes will be work there.

We are planning to meet with local authorities in Peterborough, and approaching others which include Middlesbrough and Stockton Councils to see whether we can help there too.
