The National Fraud Intelligence Bureau (NFIB) has informed us that fraudsters and bogus traders may be posing as council officials or professionals in the fire prevention industry and cold calling or visiting the homes of potential victims.
Using the tragedy of Grenfell Tower fire as the reason for their contact, the fraudsters are allegedly offering services such as a free or subsidised safety inspection.
Even if the caller has identification that looks genuine, always check for things like a business address and landline telephone number rather than a mobile number as these are impossible to trace.
If you have any doubts, ask the person to leave and contact us immediately.
Accent contractors always carry identification and will never have a problem showing it to you.
If in doubt, make sure they stay out. Be safe in your home.
