Applying for a home to rent
We let some of our homes in Yorkshire through choice based lettings schemes in partnership with local councils and other local housing associations.
Choice based lettings schemes
Through choice based lettings schemes, applicants have more choice and they only have to register once. When homes become empty, they are advertised together and people who have applied can then ‘bid’ for homes they are interested in. Most schemes work on a banding system based on an applicant’s housing need. For example, homeless people may be put in band 1 (most urgent), and people already in suitable housing but wanting something else might be put in band 4 (least urgent).
Where our homes are let as part of a choice based lettings scheme, applications go directly to the scheme. In some areas, there will be waiting lists and, if you are accepted onto a list, you will have to wait until a suitable home becomes vacant. In other areas, there might be homes available for you to rent straight away.
Homesearch for Wakefield, Flanshaw, Horbury, Ossett and South Kirkby
Accent Foundation has joined with Wakefield and District Housing in their choice based lettings scheme. Each week Wakefield and District Housing advertise available properties on the Homesearch website and in the local press. The adverts give you all the information you need about the property to help you decide if you would like to apply for it.

Kirklees Choose 'n' Move
We are currently using the Choose 'n' Move scheme with Kirklees Council to let our homes in the Kirklees area. The scheme works on a bidding cycle. Anyone who is interested in renting a home in the Kirklees area can have a look at what homes are available and bid for them.

We now advertise all available homes in the Leeds area through the Leeds Homes website.

Closed waiting lists
Some of our waiting lists in certain areas are closed. This is because we have a very high demand for homes in these areas and not many vacancies, or because the council nominates all our residents for them. You will find a list of any closed areas on our renting a home page.

Exchanging your home
We are members of a service called homeswapper. This scheme helps residents to exchange their homes with residents of other landlords. Please contact our neighbourhood team and ask about Homeswapper before going any further as it is subject to certain terms and conditions and the agreement of both landlords involved.
