Moving on or buying your home

Applying for a transfer

We operate a joint housing register with Surrey Heath Borough Council. All moves into our homes are managed through the joint register, even if the move is from one of our homes into another.

If you are one of our residents in the Surrey Heath area and you want to be considered for a transfer, you need to apply to the joint housing register. When you apply, your application will be assessed in line with the joint allocation policy which we operate with Surrey Heath Borough Council.

You can collect an application form for the Surrey Heath joint housing register from our main Camberley office. You can also ring our customer services team on 0800 294 2280 or 01276 852 900 and ask for a form to be sent to you.

Once your application has been assessed, you will be told how many points you have, the priority this gives you and the size of home you qualify for.

Mutual exchange

As one of our residents, you can swap homes with another Accent Peerless resident, or the resident of another registered social landlord or council. This can be a great way of getting a transfer to the home and area of your choice. Many of our residents complete mutual exchanges every year.

Homeswapper

To help you find an exchange, you need to join Homeswapper , a free service for our residents. You can do this online and, when you do, you will become part of the national register of residents who are looking to exchange their homes. Our customer services team can help you register. Please contact them on 0800 294 2280 or 01276 852 900.

What do I do next?

If you have found someone who would like to swap homes with you, your next step is to get our permission. Please contact our customer services team on 0800 294 2280 01276 852 900 for an application form and to find out what happens next.

Before we will agree to an exchange, you must have a clear rent account without arrears. We will also inspect your home to identify any outstanding repairs, alterations or damage, and make sure it is in a fit condition to be exchanged.  You will be responsible for making good any damage which has not come from normal wear and tear.

There might be other reasons we have to refuse the exchange. For example if:

  • The exchange would lead to overcrowding or under-occupation.
  • A notice to seek possession has been served on anyone involved.
  • The new resident would not qualify (this might happen in cases of retirement housing or a property which has been adapted for disabled people).

If you have any questions about mutual exchanges, or want to check you qualify for one, please contact your Tenancy and estate officer or the customer services team on 01276 852 900, email enquiries@accentpeerless.co.uk.

You must get our written permission before you can carry out a mutual exchange, and you should not make any arrangements to move until you have got it.

Buying your home

If you are a former tenant of Surrey Heath Borough Council, you will probably qualify for the right to buy your home. Under the ‘right to buy’ scheme, you can buy your home with the qualifying discount you have earned for the length of time you spent as a tenant. The maximum discount will be £38,000.

If you would like to talk to us about buying your home, please call into our main office in Camberley to talk to us about it. You can also email enquiries@accentpeerless.co.uk  for more information.

The Right to Buy scheme does not apply to our residents in Kent, West Sussex and East Surrey whose properties are managed from the Ashford office but a few residents in Kent may qualify under the Right to Acquire scheme and, if interested, should contact their local office for further information.

If you would like more information about buying your home before talking to us, please go to our home ownership page for more information to help you make up your mind.
