Moving on or buying your home
This page covers:
Giving notice to terminate your tenancy
Moving to another Accent Nene Property
Moving to a property of another housing provider
Exchanging your home for another rented property
Buying your current home or another Accent Nene property
If you are wishing to leave Accent Nene you must let us know this in writing giving us at least one month’s notice. Do this by using our Notice of Termination of Tenancy form.
You must pay your rent until your notice ends, whether you live there or not, unless we have been able to let the property to another resident during this period.
On the day you move out, turn off the water at the stop tap. Take meter readings for your gas, electric and water usage and tell your gas, electricity, phone and water companies that you are leaving. You should also make sure your phone is disconnected so you cannot be charged for any more calls. You must return all your keys to us by 12 noon on the date of the termination letter we send you.
You must leave the property in good repair and decorative condition. You will be charged for any damage we think you have caused.
You could qualify for a refund of rent if you assist us to let the property to a new tenant during your notice period by:
- Arranging a maintenance inspection of the property as soon as you give notice.
- Letting us show the property to prospective new tenants before you move out.
- Letting us know when you will surrender the keys at the above office and doing so on the agreed date, either in person or in a secure envelope.
- Leaving the premises in good repair and decorative condition, clean, tidy and empty of all possessions and refuse.
Contact our customer services team for further assistance.
If you are a resident and wish to transfer to another Accent Nene property you will need to go through the same process as if you were not already housed with us. Please refer to the East Midlands section of the your home finder part of this web site for further information.
If you want to transfer from us to another registered provider we recommend that you contact the local authority for details of the landlords in the area you wish to move to and also to find out how properties are allocated in that area.
We are also members of a service called HomeSwapper which can assist you to exchange your home with another Accent Nene resident or a resident of another landlord. You are able to advertise your property for free and also to search for available properties. Before starting this process you need to contact us as swapping your home in this way is subject to certain criteria and the agreement of both landlords.
You are also able to advertise properties for exchange and view properties available for exchange at our office in Peterborough.
There are a number of home ownership options which may help you buy your current home or another property. Please see our homeownership page for details.
