Our training and engagement initiatives

By linking our training services with our wider resident engagement work, we can signpost our customers to new opportunities in employment, development, learning, healthy living and involvement, and help to tackle worklessness, and financial and social exclusion.

Are you unemployed, claiming JSA or claiming ESA and being asked to look for work?  You will still receive benefits and be able to claim travel and child care expenses. Having completed  the employability training and work experience you will be offered an interview with one of the participating organisations for a customer service post within that organisation. Those successful will be offered employment for any suitable posts available at that time or placed on a list for future job vacancies.

For more information, or to find out if you are eligible, call Katie Lad at Barkerend Training Centre on 01274 728 377 or Jobcentre Plus Employer Advisor Team on 01274 336 627.

Employment training

Our employment training courses not only teach the technical skills to do a job, they help trainees develop the life skills that enable them to make a contribution back into the community. Key is the role of mentors, who work on each individual scheme to provide an intense support structure. We also work closely with employers and colleges to ensure that the trainees are of the highest quality, and able to go straight into new roles in the most productive way. However, the real measure of our success is the trainees who have completed our courses and are now working in and contributing to their own communities.

First Step Engagement

Through one-to-one mentoring, First Step Engagement helps people become job ready through training in CV writing, job searching, making formal and speculative applications and learning interview techniques. Once a job is found, support is provided for up to 13 weeks. Work placements, training, and any additional support can also be sourced. The project is funded by Working Links and the DWP (Department for Work and Pensions) from the European Social Fund).

Job Support

Our job support programme is funded by A4E. The one-to-one service is tailored to suit the individual's needs, and provides advice, guidance and personal mentoring support.

Skills for Jobs

Skills for Jobs is funded by the Learning Skills Council (LSC) and European Social Fund (ESF). It is a construction training programme aimed at helping people into learning, level 1 qualifications and employment. We can source voluntary options, placements, work experience and signposting services.
