Accent residents, board members and staff have been working together as the Co-Design Group to redesign our resident engagement strategy.
Accent customers are diverse and our homes are geographically spread, so we have faced a number of challenges over the years to effectively engage with our residents, despite trying a number of ways in which to do so.
The aim of the Co-Design Group is to work out how Accent can overcome these challenges, so residents have the opportunity to effectively shape and influence the services they receive. The group's work was complemented by a wider survey, in which 365 residents took part to tell us more about how they would prefer to be consulted.
We have not fully agreed what our new approach would be, but there are some very strong themes emerging from the feedback so far:
- More focus on online engagement, so residents from all over the country and from a wide range of backgrounds can give us their views, at their convenience, without having to attend meetings.
- A simpler resident involvement structure. In the past, our various panels and committees have had very different aims and approaches, and it has not always been clear what their roles and responsibilities have been.
- More focus on groups of people with common interests and less about regional activity.
- Providing feedback. Residents don't hear what has ahppened as a result of their feedback so don't feel their views are taken into consideration. This is something we will address.
We aim to keep residents informed about our new strategy. In the meantime, you can find more information about the Co-Design Group, and the outcomes of surveys and consultations on the Accent Hub.
