On 27 October, we used our monthly dress down day charity collection to support our food bank, which was set up by our Yorkshire tenancy sustainability team about three years ago.
The response from Accent staff at Charlestown House was phenomenal and we now have very well stocked cupboards full of non-perishable food items and toiletries for people in need.
Although we refer our residents to local food banks, we are coming across more and more residents in crisis, often affected by welfare reforms and benefit sanctions. In these cases, with our own supplies, we can offer immediate support with food parcels. These can often be a lifeline for our residents.
In recent months we have seen an increase in requests for food parcels, and the fact that our staff can offer immediate help means we can really make a difference to people’s lives.
We are hoping to deliver hampers to some of our most vulnerable residents as we approach the festive season.
