A resident discovered that his benefits had been stopped due to an issue with his right to reside in the country. Suffering from ill-health and struggling to communicate, he was isolated and unsure as to where to turn for help.
We contacted the resident and offered him support through our Tenancy Sustainability team. Our officer took ownership of his case and assisted him with completing application forms, communicating with relevant agencies and also attending his tribunal. This work resulted in him receiving a backdated payment from Employment Support Allowance of £3,500 as well as securing ongoing payments and backdated housing benefit amounting to £4,127 with a continuous claim.
We are continuing to support the resident by arranging for him to move into a property which will be more suitable for his ongoing needs.
