In our December 2015 issue of Accent News, we announced the Government’s plans to extend the Right to Buy Scheme to 1.3 million housing association tenants.
However, the Government had not made it clear at the time how the scheme would work, or the date it would start. We were expecting it to be some time in the summer of last year but, for a variety of reasons, it has been put back until 2018.
Although we still do not know the details of exactly how the scheme will work, we understand from the information we do have is that there are likely to be qualifying conditions. For example, the length of time you have been a resident. Here is some further information in a question and answer format published by the National Housing Federation which we hope will be helpful.
While the scheme is still being planned, if you think you might like to buy your home, either now or in the future, please contact us. We are keeping a list of people who are interested.
Did you know that we also build homes for shared ownership in some areas? These could be another way in which you can get on the property ladder. For details of these, and the other homes to rent we have available right now, please visit our ‘find a home’ section.
As soon as the full details of the Right to Buy scheme are made available by the Government, and when the scheme is due to launch, we will update you on our website.
