Making a difference… improving homes, communities and lives

Reviewing our services to older people

Olderpersonreview MainWe are currently reviewing the way we will provide housing and services for older people in the future. About a third of our existing residents are over 60, so this is a big issue for us going forward. Many of these residents live in specialist accommodation but a large number live in our general needs accommodation.

We have been talking to our residents and applicants to identify what their future aspirations and needs might be, we are assessing our existing sheltered and extra care schemes to ensure they can, and will, provide accommodation and services that are right for our residents into the future. In addition we are looking at what services we might provide to older people living in general needs accommodation.

The review is not due to conclude until the end of the year but initial findings suggest that people prefer to remain independent in their own homes, but have access to a number of improved services to enable them to do so. We are considering a number of ideas and would welcome any comments you have on the subject.

So lots to think about over the next few months – but really important if we are to be able to deliver a Personal, Modern and Better service to our older residents.
