Private Tenants and Landlords Service

Working in partnership with private sector landlords to improve property condition and tenancy management standards in the private rented sector.

Private Tenants and Landlords Service

Established in 2001, in partnership with Barrow Borough Council and the Furness Partnership, the Private Tenants and Landlords Service has developed from an empty homes brokerage to the Council's landlord and tenant accreditation agency.

The service is financed by the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund. It operates from a town centre office within easy reach of clients and customers.

The service works in partnership with private sector landlords to improve property condition and tenancy management standards in the private rented sector. It operates within the agreed accreditation scheme code of standards.

The service also operates the Council's tenant passport scheme, a tenant referencing service that complements the landlord accreditation scheme. Alongside this, the service develops and incorporates into the accreditation scheme incentives for landlord participation, including the promotion and management of the local authority grants project that aims to improve property security, fire safety and energy efficiency is accredited properties.
