£10,000 for a new ambulance and medical equipment
Through Accent Foundation, we have given £10,000 to the Al
Mustafa Trust in Pakistan, for a new community ambulance and
specialised medical equipment.
The ambulance will transport people from some of the most
distant and worse affected earthquake areas to the Trust's main
hospitals for medical treatment. These remote areas are still
recovering from the tragedy, and the people living in them are some
of the country's poorest, with no other means of getting to
hospital when they become ill.
Accent Community Partnerships Assistant Director Ehjaz
Gull said: "This is a real
opportunity for Accent's charitable activity to become
international. Our support will help the Trust provide medical care
for some of the poorest and most remotely located people, who would
have no other means of getting it. These communities in Pakistan
are an extension of our own communities here, as many local Accent
residents have relatives in Pakistan who were directly affected by
the earthquake tragedy."
The secretary of Al Mustafa Trust, Syed Munawar Hussain
Gilani, was present to receive the cheque on behalf of the Trust's
Chairman. He said: Thanks to Accent's
support, we now have a way of getting some of our poorest people to
hospital when they become ill. Here, they will be seen by our
volunteer consultants, as we make no charge for people who cannot
afford to pay. We want everyone to know about Accent and how
grateful we are, so we will make sure that everyone who benefits
from the ambulance and the new equipment knows where it comes
from."
Operations Manager Nawaz Khan said: "This is
Accent's first international venture, and we are delighted to be
able to support a charity at a real grass roots level. It's an
honour for me to be involved with what I hope is the start of an
ongoing relationship between Accent and the Al Mustafa Trust. It is
the beginning of a new journey for Accent, one where its help can
have far reaching affects on others."
Speaking on behalf of Accent Foundation was Malcolm
Whalan. Malcolm said: "When we heard about the earthquake tragedy,
we wanted to do something to help. While we were considering what
to do, we discovered the Al Mustafa Trust, and we were very
impressed with what we found. On behalf of the Foundation, I'm very
pleased to be able to make this donation."
